Rockstar Games have created a number of fan-favorite titles. Older classics like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV have been proven the test of time and are still beloved by their audiences to this day, proving the market for a potential remaster of these titles is high. After some rumors and confirmations from Rockstar Games alike, we know that we should be getting remakes of these beloved games at some point — It just might not be any time soon.
In a tweet from Tez2, a reliable source for Rockstar Games leaks and rumors, it’s said that the remakes for Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV have been postponed for an unknown amount of time. In their tweet, Tez2 says that this decision was made to instead focus on the production of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Tez2’s tweet also suggests that the poor reception of the GTA Trilogy remakes may be the reason for the shift in focus. What seemed to be a lack of care made the GTA Trilogy remakes a buggy mess that fell far beneath audience expectations, and may have shaken faith in Rockstar’s ability to sell remakes for Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV.
This rumor has been corroborated by Kotaku, who cite that according to their sources Tez2’s tweet is absolutely correct. This may be one of the more disappointing leaks to have confirmed, as a Red Dead Redemption remade to the graphics standards of the sequel is something many fans of both games have been hoping for.
With this rumor allegedly confirmed to be true, all we can hope for is that Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming along quickly in development. Should Rockstar deliver on the hype for the next mainline GTA title, we can hope future remakes of both Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV would be just as good.
